The Undocumented Americans by Karla Cornejo Villavicencio

Red RoomFor the month of September, the Inner Shelf Book Club will be focusing on a theme of identity to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
We will be meeting September 16th in the conference room to discuss The Undocumented Americans by Karla Cornejo Villavicencio. In this nonfiction/memoir, Karla Cornejo Villavicencio, one of the first undocumented immigrants to graduate from Harvard, shares her story of embarking on a cross-country road trip to tell the stories of her fellow undocumented immigrants—and to find the hidden key to her own. The stories she tells are not deferential or naively inspirational but show the love, magic, heartbreak, insanity, and vulgarity that infuse the day-to-day lives of her subjects.
