Teen Mental Health First Aid teaches how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges in themselves, their friends, and peers.
Why take teen mental health first aid?
Teen Mental Health First Aid is for teens in grades 10-12, or ages 15-18, and teaches how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges in themselves, their friends, and peers. This program is taught by local community leaders that have been certified to teach the program.
With TMHFA, you will have the power to help. You will be able to support yourself, your friends, and your peers. Participants of all three days will receive certification, free from Council for Youth Development. You will also:
-earn service learning hours
-receive a certificate of completion
-join a community of like-minded teens
-experience a judgment-free zone
-add accomplishments to your resume
Ways you'll learn to help:
-Common signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges
-Common signs and symptoms of a mental health crisis, particularly suicide
-The impact of school violence and bullying on mental health
-How to open the conversation about mental illnesses and substance us with friends
-How to seek the help of a responsible and trusted adult.

The Main Library is located in the Cleo Rogers Memorial Library in downtown Columbus at 536 Fifth Street. Completed in 1969 and designed by architect I.M. Pei, it features library collections for children, teens, and adults. It also houses the Columbus Indiana Architectural Archives, Family and Local History collection, and BCPL Create studio.
