Experience nature at night with Sycamore Land Trust and BCPL at Touch the Earth Natural Area. During the hike, we will use all our senses to explore the nocturnal happenings at the preserve.

Experience nature at night with Sycamore Land Trust and BCPL at Touch the Earth Natural Area (25 N Country Club Rd, Columbus, IN 47201). During the hike, we will use all our senses to explore the nocturnal happenings at the preserve. We will gather just before sunset and will be out until after full dark. While a flashlight or headlamp will be needed to look for the eyeshine of spiders and other nighttime critters, limiting flashlight use may be encouraged to get the most out of the after dark nature experience.

  • Tips to Prepare:
  • Sunset will be at 7:11?PM
  • Bring a headlamp or flashlight.
  • Dress appropriately for being outdoors based on the weather forecast, layering is recommended.
  • Wear long pants socks, and closed toed hiking shoes, boots, or other footwear with good traction.
  • Consider bringing a walking stick or trekking poles.
  • Use bug repellent to prevent tick and insect bites, bring your own or some will be made available upon request.
  • Bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated, water for refill will be available upon request.
  • Please keep in mind that there are no restrooms at Sycamore's preserves.
  • In the event of inclement weather, this event will be cancelled or rescheduled with advance notice given.
  • Please do not bring dogs for guided hikes
  • Outside of special opportunities like this, please note that Sycamore Land Trust preserves are open from dawn to dusk, such that visitors are only permitted to visit during daylight hours.

Head west on State Road 46

Turn left (south) at Country Club Road - Look for the blue water tower on the right, on the other side of SR 46

The parking area at the entrance to the preserve will be on the left, about half a mile down Country Club Rd, across from a stone house

About the branch

The Main Library is located in the Cleo Rogers Memorial Library in downtown Columbus at 536 Fifth Street. Completed in 1969 and designed by architect I.M. Pei, it features library collections for children, teens, and adults. It also houses the Columbus Indiana Architectural Archives, Family and Local History collection, and BCPL Create studio.
