Guy Gruters, a Vietnam War POW for more than five years, was one of the 591 surviving POWs of all military services released in 1973 during Operation Homecoming. He will talk about how he survived those years while bringing a message of leadership, teamwork, resilience, and forgiveness. Gruters graduated from the Air Force Academy, received his Masters Degree from Purdue and went to Vietnam in 1966 after receiving his flight wings. For his service, Gruters received two silver stars, two distinguished flying crosses, one bronze star for valor, two purple hearts, and over 20 air medals. The Main Library is located in the Cleo Rogers Memorial Library in downtown Columbus at 536 Fifth Street. Completed in 1969 and designed by architect I.M. Pei, it features library collections for children, teens, and adults. It also houses the Columbus Indiana Architectural Archives, Family and Local History collection, and BCPL Create studio.
